Does Creation Matter?

Those who took Geometry in high school will remember the rigor involved in proving a theorem. No corollary, postulate, or hypothesis could be used or assumed which had not first been proven to be true. When properly developed, the theorem could be shown to be true in every applicable case. While geometry teaches a great deal about the relationships of physical things, the development of proofs teaches a logical and systematic approach to learning new things, the “scientific Method.”

The same method was then applied in Chemistry and other sciences to establish a valid explanation for the phenomena that were observed. Science was not just a bunch of guesses, but a body of proven ideas. Scientific statements could be accepted as fact.

In the 1950‘s, Albert Einstein had a major falling out with the physicists of the day, and was largely ignored for the last few years of his life because he began to question some of the statements that were being propounded by the scientific community. His complaint was that while he had proven his theories, they were assuming various corollaries to his theories to be true that had not been proven.

A corollary is an extension of a theory or principle. If we accept the Golden Rule, Do unto others as you would have them do to you” as a principle, them a corollary would be that how you treat others indicates how you want to be treated. Corollaries are not necessarily true, and Einstein’s complaint was that by assuming they were without proving it was resulting in erroneous conclusions. Today, a vast body of scientific theory is built on those unproven corollaries to Einstein’s theories. String theory, and several other theories have led to a dead end in physics research, probably because some of the corollaries assumed to be correct are false. Today physicists are concerned that for nearly twenty years, no significant progress has been made, and they have been unable to prove, or even to demonstrate most of the conclusions.. A flawed basis always leads to flawed conclusions and constant need for exceptions and adjustments.

Genesis means “the beginning”. The book of Genesis lays the basis for both Christianity and the Jewish religion. While Christianity rests on the accuracy of every book of the Bible, every other book ultimately depends on the basis laid in Genesis. The integrity of both Christianity and Judaism depends on the validity and accuracy of the book of Genesis. If Genesis is not true, then both Christianity and Judaism are hoaxes and should be discontinued without delay.

Today we are often told that no true scientist believes the Genesis account. Such statements are not true. The Creation Science Research society is comprised of working scientists who believe the Genesis account is scientifically viable and accept it as a better explanation than evolution. In fact several studies have indicated that over half of all research scientists, those who actually work at testing and applying scientific theories, believe creation is a viable explanation, but that more that 90% of academic science professors and teachers do not. This dichotomy is disturbing, in that those who are teaching science are not in agreement with those who are developing it.

In this study, I will not attempt to prove creation, although I may refer to scientific evidence occasionally to demonstrate that creation is not impossible. Unless someone was actually there to observe it, proving it will be nearly impossible. Believing the Bible is God’s word, and that he was there to observe and participate in creation, I can either accept his observations as valid or decide he doesn’t know either. I have chosen to believe him. Many others have chosen not to, and there is considerable controversy over the matter.

Hebrews 11:3 declares, “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.” Just a couple of verses later, Hebrews 11:6 states, “But without faith it is impossible to please him(God) …” In 1 Corinthians 11:19, Paul declares, “For there must be also heresies (controversies) among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.”

Clearly, what we believe about creation and God are going to have a major effect on every area of our Christian life, and affect our relationship to him. It matters a great deal. While I expect you will be familiar with most of what I discuss, I pray the study will cause us to examine our beliefs more carefully.

  1. One of my favorite topics. I look forward to seeing where you go with this, and I may post this on my facebook for people to come and peak if you don't mind. I agree that belief in the Biblical account of creation is essential for a solid and right understanding of God's word. We'll pray for you, Donald! Keep fighting the good fight! Consquently, I go away for a week and you finish Acts...now I have to back read...

  3. Three factors are required for a theory to become a fact in real science: Measurable, Repeatable, Observable. None of these are possible in regard to origins. Thus creation and evolution are both theories scientifically.

You are on solid ground. The God who wrote the Bible also wrote the laws of "nature."

If I remember my high school math classes, even in math you must start with some things that are accepted on faith.

    Good thoughts.

    Grace and peace.
