Christians During The Tribulation

Revelation 7:1-17

“And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.
And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea, Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.” (Revelation 7:1-3)

Before the natural disasters described in chapter six, there will be a brief period of when things seem pretty stable.  During that time God identifies those who are his to be protected during the events to follow.  The brief respite will probably be used by the antichrist to convince the world that his policies are working, if he is like most political leaders.

“And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.  Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand.  Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Nephthalim were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand.  Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand.  Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand.” (Revelation 7:4-8)

This first one hundred forty four thousand are young, unmarried Jewish men,  twelve Thousand from each tribe.  Revelation 14:1-5 describes them. “And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads. And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.
These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.  And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.” (Revelation 14:1-5)
“After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.” (Revelation 7:9-10)

In addition to the hundred forty four thousand there is a vast multitude of people from every family and race and language standing before God and Christ, believers in white robes of righteousness, waving palm branches and shouting thanks to both God and Jesus Christ for their salvation.

“And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God, Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.” (Revelation 7:11-12)

When the believers shouted, the millions of angels around the throne bowed in worship in agreement,  God and extolling his glory, wisdom, prestige, and power and thanking him.

“And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they?

And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest.

And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.  Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.

They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.   For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.” (Revelation 7:13-17)

As the elder explained to John, these are millions of Christians who have gone through the tribulation, staying faithful to God.  They will have special relationship with Christ for their faithfulness.  He will supply their every need, and protect them from every possible discomfort or regret.

  1. I'm glad that those who are now born-again believers will not have to go through the Tribulation. Praise God that during the Tribulation, the Gospel will spread to all nations and tribes through Holy Spirit inspiration of the 144,000, and that many who have not previously rejected the Gospel will come to know Him. Thanks for the great post & God bless! Laurie

    1. thanks. Laurie.

There is a wide spread belief That Christians will not go through the Tribulation based on the interpretation of II Thessalonians 2:7 as referring to the Holy Spirit being taken away. there is no scripture supporting that interpretation, and II Peter 1:20-21 states that we can only interpret prophecy on the basis of other prophecies. Daniel 12:1, 10:13, 10:20, and Revelation 12:7 all indicate that it is Michael, the archangel, who prevents Satanic forces from overpowering Israel, rather than the Holy Spirit.

    2. I agree Donald, I am not waiting for a “secret Rapture” but I agree that the Lord will supply strength and faith for whatever comes our way, He is able when we are not able. Many have the emphasis on faith in a Rapture, when our faith must not waiver away from Jesus alone, His forgiveness, His love, His helps. Many are putting faith in something that is probably a misinterpretation, instead of keeping their faith in Jesus.
